Tokyo Jihen is a band created by Shiina Ringo after leaving her solo career, which consist of Shiina Ringo herself as the main vocal and support guitar, Seiji Kameda (bass), Toshiki Hata (drums), Izawa Ichiyou (keyboard), Ryosuke Nagaoka a.k.a Ukigumo (guitar), former member Masayuki Hiizumi (keyboard) and another former member, Mikio Hirama (guitar). The main genre of music that they play are rock and jazz – quite a combination to begin with. Tokyo Jihen, if translated simply means ‘Tokyo Incidents’.
Ironically, I was first introduced to Tokyo Jihen by another Jpop artist that happens to be my latest craze lately. Tokyo Jihen was listed as one of the band that he’s currently listening to and he was talking of how much he liked their song titled ‘Rakujitsu’. I was dead curious, so I started digging on them.
Later did I found out about Shiina Ringo being the lead singer. She used to go solo before leaving her solo career and be with her new formulated band, that is ‘Tokyo Jihen’ on the 31st May 2004. On July 24, they appeared in the presence of fans at the live 0724 Yamabikari for the first time.

Well, she wasn’t exactly my favorite artist or anything but I always thought that she’s really something – not just pretty face with dance moves sort of thing. She can play practically all sorts of musical instrument and that alone has pretty much leave me in awe. She made most of those songs that she sang and her music came with an attitude. The band name itself – ‘Tokyo Jihen’ – gives a tip-off of a running theme modeled on ‘60s Japanese pulp fiction, much shown too in their presentations such in music videos and concerts.
